Admissions Process
As a selective college, Wooster admits students whose academic records and personal qualities suggest promise and success over four years of college. Typically, Wooster receives 3,000 applications for approximately 500 places in our class. We also enroll twenty-five to thirty transfer students annually. The College values student diversity and strives to admit classes which reflect social, economic, geographic, cultural, and racial diversity. Our goal in admitting students is to know the distinctive strengths and talents an individual will bring to Wooster. This is accomplished by providing students with as much individual attention as possible and to know them well, both from their paper record and in person. To these ends, our staff travels to over 30 states and several other countries where we visit secondary schools, host receptions, and offer individual interviews. In addition, 500 Wooster graduates around the country serve as local resource persons in their capacity as Alumni Admissions Representatives (AARs). Approximately 2,000 prospective students and their families visit Wooster in person each year. Wooster places emphasis on the rigor of the candidate's program, academic performance, teacher and counselor recommendations, standardized test scores, extracurricular achievements, self-expression, and those other qualities that suggest the student's potential for success and achievement in a demanding academic environment. Wooster offers the Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A. degree), the Bachelor of Music degree (B. Mus.) and the Bachelor of Music Education (B. Mus. Ed.). NOTICE OF NONDISCRIMINATORY POLICY Admission to The College of Wooster is open to qualified students regardless of age, sex, race, creed, national origin, disability, handicap, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. In determining admission, due consideration is given to many different expressions of a student's qualities and abilities: scholastic achievements, performance on standardized tests, extracurricular activities, and promise to benefit from and contribute to the intellectual life of the community. |
