Frequently Asked Questions. . . about housing at Wooster
Q. How is my housing assigned? Answer: There is a housing application as well as MBTI (Meyers-Briggs Personality Inventory) personality assessment that you will need to fill out in the beginning of the summer. The Office of Residence Life uses this information to assign your roommate and housing placement. Q. Is there maid service for my room? Answer: Not unless you hire a maid. But seriously, you will be responsible for leaving your room in the same condition in which you found it. No furniture can be moved out of the room, and you can’t build anything that can’t be disassembled without any damage to the room. Q. Is there a linen service? Answer: No. You will need to bring your own linens. Most students find two to three sets of linen (pillowcase, two sheets, three towels) ample. The College does have an authorized agent that offers sets of linens, including extra-long sheets. Q. How long are the beds? Answer: Most, but not all, beds are extra long 80 inches. Q. Where do I do my laundry? Answer: Washing machines and dryers are available in each residence hall and program house. You can use quarters or your COW Card (residence halls only) if you activate the debit card option. Q. Are the rooms carpeted? Answer: Some are, some arent. Many students choose to bring carpeting or throw-rugs from home to personalize their rooms. Q. Are there rules about electronic devices? Answer: Indeed, there are rules. Electrical appliances, accessories, and extension cords must be "Underwriters Laboratories Approved" and in good condition. Multiple appliances shouldnt be attached to a single outlet, and the total current draw at any one time should not be more than 750 watts. Here are the prohibited items: space heaters, other electrical heating appliances, toaster ovens, and air-conditioners. Residence halls and Program Houses have kitchen facilities. Q. Are pets allowed? Answer: No pets are allowed with the exception of fish and approved biology specimens. Q. Are residence halls air-conditioned? Answer: Except for Luce Hall and the public areas in Kenarden Lodge and the Bornhuetter Multi-Purpose Room, the residence halls are not air-conditioned. Individual room air-conditioners are not permitted. A window fan is recommended.Q. Does each room have its own bathroom? Answer: Bathrooms and showers are communal, either by hallway or, in certain buildings, by suite. Q. Can I build a loft? Answer: Lofts are permitted in some of our buildings. Those buildings that cannot have lofts usually have loftable furniture. Lofts will be allowed in the following buildings for the 2007-2008 academic year; Andrews, Wagner, Douglass, Compton, and Babcock Halls. Guidelines for Loft and Room Alteration Procedures and Construction Standards are available from the Residence Hall Director and on the Residence Life Web site. Q. Can I bring a water bed? Answer: Waterbeds are prohibited. Q. Are there smoke alarms? Answer: Smoke detectors are not in individual rooms but are installed in the hallways and other common areas. |
