Kauke Hall

Kauke Hall

With its distinctive arch, Kauke Hall is instantly recognizable as an icon for Wooster. Built in 1902 and completely renovated in 2006 ($18 million), Kauke is home to many of the academic departments, classrooms, and faculty offices.

Did You Know? - A tradition that the Wooster student body has participated in for several decades is filling the Kauke Arch with snow after a big storm. The belief is that if the arch is completely filled, then classes for the next day will be cancelled. While that is not actually true, the event always proves to be a real bonding event for the students.

Old Main

One of the new additions to Kauke Hall is the Old Main Café, located on the "Garden Level" of Kauke. It is a small coffee and pastry shop that includes seating for eating or studying.

Kauke Hall is the main academic building on campus and resembles an old castle. When first-year students arrive for orientation, they are lined up for their Class photograph on the front steps of Kauke. The bagpipers then march the students through the arch to McGaw Chapel for the President’s official welcome. When students graduate, they are marched back through the arch and graduation is held on the front of the steps overlooking the Oak Grove.
